Special Events
HSU Scholarships
These scholarships are funded by the previous year's Holiday Gala. Smaller awards are provided by donations from the Bridge Groups. All are presented at the December meeting. Recipients are re-entry women enrolled in upper division or graduate-level classes, who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants must be Humboldt or Del Norte County residents, have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.
Holiday Gala and Raffle
As the program portion of the December meeting, AAUW hosts a Holiday Raffle to raise money for scholarships for women re-entering Humboldt State University. This has become an annual event because of the importance of awarding local scholarships and raising visibility in the community showing some of the good work that AAUW supports. Funds raised at this event come from items donated by Branch members from September through December.
Women's History Exhibit & Tea
Humboldt Branch celebrates Women's History Month at the March Tea. Humboldt women who have made a difference based on their contributions, education and/or occupation are chosen. Honorees are selected from the distant past through the present time.
Branch members nominate the women. A member of the selection committee writes the biography of each selected woman. Her biography and a portrait plus pictures and memorabilia are displayed at the March meeting and for two weeks at the Humboldt State University Library. When possible, honorees are our guest at the tea.
This event is made even more special as members decorate their tables with fine china and centerpieces. It is an enjoyable way to honor these women and a fun event for members and guests.
